How MOBI Began
MOBI didn’t start in Silicon Valley — it started in South Central Los Angeles.
In 1992, the riots that rocked the community inspired founders Phil and Peggy Holland to act. They believed that entrepreneurship could help rebuild struggling neighborhoods by creating jobs, opportunity, and self-confidence. They developed a business curriculum and offered it for free out of a local job training center, helping everyday people take real steps toward launching their own ventures.
Fast forward to 2015, and the Hollands entrusted MOBI to Santa Clara University, ensuring the program could remain free and accessible to learners around the world. Since then, MOBI has become a truly global resource for entrepreneurs — taught from the heart of Silicon Valley but available to anyone, anywhere. (Santa Clara University)
