Thinking about buying a home? Fall might be your golden opportunity to score a deal!

According to a new report from Realtor.com, the week of September 27 through October 3, 2026, was predicted to offer the best combination of lower prices, more homes to choose from, and fewer competing buyers.

And here's the eye-catching number: Potential savings of $14,000!

Why Is Fall a Homebuyer's Friend?

As summer fades, so does some of the competition. Families are settled into school routines, fewer buyers are shopping, and sellers may be more willing to negotiate.

Realtor.com's research highlighted some impressive advantages:

  • $14,000 in potential savings compared with peak summer asking prices on a median-priced home.

  • 32% more homes available compared with the beginning of the year.

  • 30% less buyer competition compared with peak demand.

  • More negotiating power, with homes typically spending about 13 additional days on the market.

Missed the Best Week? Not So Fast!

Although the nationally predicted sweet spot has passed, there's still good news. Realtor.com says the following weeks can offer favorable conditions, and prices may soften further as the holidays approach.
