Nationwide Ice Cream Recall: 10 Popular Bars Pulled Over Listeria Risk

July 26, 2025 — More than 100,000 cases of ice cream bars produced by Florida-based Rich’s Ice Cream Co. have been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous foodborne bacterium. The recall, announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects 10 varieties of frozen treats sold across 23 states and the Bahamas.

🚫 Recalled Products

Consumers are urged to immediately discard the following ice cream bars:

  • Chocolate Crunch Cake Bars

  • Strawberry Shortcake Bars

  • Rich Bars

  • Crumbled Cookie Bars

  • Orange Cream Bars

  • Fudge Frenzy Bars

  • Cotton Candy Twirl Bars

  • Savagely Sour Blue Raspberry Bars

  • Savagely Sour Cherry Bars

  • Cool Watermelon Bars

These products were individually packaged in plastic bags and distributed in master cases. The recall applies to lot numbers 24531 through 25156, totaling 110,292 cases.

🌍 Where Were They Sold?

The recalled items were distributed in the following states: Arizona, Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin — as well as Nassau, Bahamas.

It remains unclear whether the products were sold through ice cream trucks or specific retail stores.

⚠️ Health Risks

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection especially dangerous for older adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include:

  • Fever and muscle aches

  • Headache and stiff neck

  • Confusion and loss of balance

  • Diarrhea and stomach pain

  • Miscarriage, stillbirth, or premature delivery

  • In severe cases, death

According to the CDC, listeriosis is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the U.S., responsible for up to 260 deaths annually.
