Some places invite you to slow down — and Shipshewana, Indiana is one of them.
One of the prettiest ways to experience this Indiana Amish Country favorite is through the Shipshewana Quilt Gardens, a seasonal outdoor attraction that turns flower beds into living works of art. These gardens combine quilting, gardening, and local creativity in a way that feels perfectly suited to the area.
According to Visit Shipshewana, the Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail feature 16 large gardens, millions of blooms, and colorful patchwork-inspired designs. For 2026, Shipshewana is also celebrating the addition of two new gardens, giving visitors even more reason to explore.
A Quilt Made of Flowers
Instead of fabric and thread, these “quilts” are created with carefully planted flowers in bold patterns and bright colors.
For 2026, the two Shipshewana garden stops include:
Farmstead Inn & Conference Center
370 S. Van Buren St., Shipshewana, IN
This garden features a Trip Around the World pattern made with 2,528 flowers.
Weaver Furniture Sales
7870 W. 075 N., Shipshewana, IN
This garden features an Amish Shadow pattern made with 1,435 flowers.
Each stop offers a beautiful photo opportunity and a chance to appreciate the care, planning, and craftsmanship behind these living designs.
When to Visit
The Quilt Gardens are free and open to the public from May 30, 2026, through September 15, 2026. They are best viewed during daylight hours, making them a perfect addition to a summer day trip or weekend getaway.
Visitors can download the official map or pick one up at the Shipshewana/LaGrange County Visitors Center to plan their route.
Why It’s Worth the Trip
The beauty of the Quilt Gardens is that they feel authentic to Shipshewana. Quilting is part of the area’s heritage. Gardening fits the landscape. And the self-guided pace gives visitors the chance to explore without rushing.
It is a simple but memorable experience — park, walk, take photos, admire the flowers, and enjoy the charm of Amish Country.
For small towns, it is also a great reminder: memorable tourism does not always require something huge. Sometimes the best attractions come from celebrating what a community already does well.
Make It a Full Day
After visiting the gardens, spend time exploring Shipshewana’s shops, quilt and fabric stores, restaurants, bakeries, furniture makers, and local attractions. The Quilt Gardens pair perfectly with a relaxed day of shopping, sightseeing, and enjoying the slower pace of the area.
