The Great American Road Trip Is Back, and Small Towns Should Be Ready

Americans may be skipping the passport line this summer, but they are not skipping vacation.


More travelers are trading expensive international trips for weekend getaways, day trips and destinations within driving distance. According to the Associated Press, small businesses in tourist communities are seeing more Americans vacation closer to home, although many are also watching their budgets by shortening trips, choosing affordable activities and occasionally cooking instead of dining out.
