Check Your Fridge: More Than 19 Million Eggs Recalled

Before making breakfast, take a close look at that egg carton.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, Midwest Poultry Services has recalled nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs, or more than 19 million individual eggs, because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The eggs were sold under several brands, including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning and Cal-Maine Sunups.

The recall affects eggs with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026. Look for carton codes P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates ranging from 157 to 184. Kroger sales were limited to stores in Texas and Louisiana, while other recalled eggs reached several Southern states.

Health officials have linked the wider Salmonella outbreak, in part, to the recalled eggs. As of July 24, 98 illnesses and 26 hospitalizations had been reported, with no deaths.

Do not eat recalled eggs. Throw them away or return them for a refund, then wash any containers, shelves or surfaces they may have touched with hot, soapy water.
